The Stitches We Know

“The Stitches we Know,” oil, 24x30 - Collection of the Artist. My painting had me under its spell. This painting is one that has long been on my mind and in my “to be painted” file. I kept thinking it would be finished for the week’s blog post, but it wasn’t. But it is ready for you now…. “The Stitches we Know,” oil, 24x30 - Collection of the Artist The subject of the painting is my niece, Bek (a/k/a Rebekah). She was taking down her childhood room and is transitioning to her adult life. I found it poignant that her elementary days are represented and the family’s ancestral home is there as well with the picture of the widow’s walk. There are hints to her siblings and even the family’s favorite meal her Mama makes. The photo was taken as a message to me. She is holding up a granny square I crocheted for her (my stitches) while wearing a t-shirt with her “Stitch” on it. We know and think different things, but we share them with each other. So, as you can see this painting brings up many things to my heart and mind. But now dear viewer, I leave it to you. Please enjoy it however you wish. I Missed You Last Week

As this applies to my painting practice, it has changed my direction. I have been working (albeit slowly) on my flower paintings. I’m going to turn them to the wall for now and start something new. I don’t want to tell you about it yet, because I am preserving my energy and thoughts about it. As soon as it is underway, I will share it with you.

Happy Collectors and Happy Artists

It is such a loving thing to do – having confidence in someone. My collector knew I could and would paint my best for her. It was such a pleasure. She now has two new heirlooms to present to her family. Oh Happy Day! Painting continues on the florals. A great way to start the summer. I might have to make it part of my annual celebration of Spring!

Portrait Progress

Thank you for all the notes, email, texts of kindness and get well wishes. The good news is that Robert and I are starting to feel better. The bad news is – we are still testing positive for COVID-19. Resting and painting. I can do that. Robert is resting and exploring the universe at the same time. I hear galactic laser sounds coming from his office while the cats keep him warm in his recliner.
