Springing Back into the Studio

Apr 1, 2023

A beautiful bouquet of homegrown asparagus was gifted to me this week and was immediately inspiration for a new painting. I got right back to the easel, and began to reflect on the beautiful shapes and colors. Asparagus is a sure sign that Spring has arrived.

Freshly cut that morning; I was drawing by afternoon.
Laying them out on a gold-leafed panel to get an idea of composition.
Drawing Begun
Placing them one by one….shape by shape.
Sketch Completed – Drying Overnight
(Portrait sneak peek in background)
Painting with Color has begun.

It is beautiful with the greens and purples on the gold-leafed panel. I promise to show you the finished painting first.

Here is a great site for learning to grow your own asparagus:

It is good to be back in the studio!

Thank you so much for your inspiration,

Michel

I loved watching your beautiful asparagus bouquet come to life on the canvas. I’ll send you a photo of the feathery asparagus leaves and bell-like blossoms in our front yard.

I really enjoyed sitting across the table with you while we painted. That was great. The asparagus foliage is so light and gentle compared with the fruit that shoots up from the soil like a cannon!

Very nice. I am still painting pet portraits.

Can’t find the time to paint for myself!!!
