Springbank Retreat Center

Oct 17, 2025
Springbank Retreat Center has a classic American home with grand columns, beautifully landscaped gardens, and religious statues among its many beautiful ancient oaks.

From the Litchfield Painting Workshop, I went straight to Springbank Retreat Center, in Kingstree, South Carolina.  My purpose was to deliver a gift from Pam. She had left the Center a world class collection of religious icons she had collected from all over the world. She had wanted to deliver them herself, but became too ill.

Vibrant home altar display with religious icons and artwork atop a brick fireplace mantel, creating a warm and spiritual atmosphere.

This was a perfect opportunity to rest and gather my thoughts.

I stayed with them a few wonderful days.

White house with large trees and garden, peaceful rural setting.

I stayed in Sage House.

Surrounded by mature trees, shrubs, and a natural landscape.

Spectacular views and home-like accommodations.

My Reading nook.

Cozy living room with comfortable furniture and

large corner windows with views of the lush outdoors.

The view from my work table as I planned my next paintings.
Looks like I need to add this view to the list.

They had exactly what I needed there – peace, quiet, nature, comfort, and kindness. Excited to learn they have a vibrant art program with room to use if you need it. I am seriously planning some type of Spring painting workshop. Will be visiting them again soon to discuss details. Let me know if you are interested in attending.

They could use our help. Springbank Retreat Center has a rich history and is maintained by a handful of nuns. They are a non-profit worthy of our support.   Make plans to visit. They offer peace, quiet and kindness.  See more about their history here.

Next week I will show you the painting I’m working on.

Glad to be painting again.

As Ever, thank you so much for your interest in my painting practice.

Michel

So good to see you are still at the easel. I’m back in Aiken now but no brush in hand now. Thank you for the memories. Keep on painting your beautiful scenes. Love, Mildred krause

Hey Mildred! Aiken is one of South Carolina’s most beautiful cities. They have some good art exhibitions too. If you are not painting, just go looking. Maybe something will inspire you to wet a brush! Much love.

Hey beautiful! Yes, the icon collection is truly unique. Pam told me about each of them and which country she was in when she obtained them. It wa a passion of hers. Let us hear from you often. We miss you. Love to Sully. Happy for my big nephew!

Hi there! Yes, easel is wet at present. I am trying hard not to mess this one up by painting on it while wet. My job sometimes is watching paint dry. Cheeky!

    I love you too!
